Sophie the Giraffe Teether
Sophie the Giraffe aka Sophie la Girafe, the baby teether toy that originated in France back in 1961, remains a popular choice for parents, topping the
Amazon best seller list year after year.
Sophie the Giraffe
It is interesting to know why Sophie the Giraffe, such a simplistic toy, continues to be an ongoing success.
Sophie the Giraffe is chewed on the mouths of thousands of babies all over the world, some three decades after her Hollywood debut in the movie Three Men and a Baby, 1987.
Word of mouth is one factor behind her fame,
as others parents see and hear good things about the toy and buy one on the first sign of their baby chewing. Sophie the Giraffe also proves to be a popular gift for new parents on the birth of their newborn.
Sophie's popularity continues to reach stardom status, as she is fast becoming the number one choice of teether for celebrity babies.

Perhaps another reason behind Sophie the Giraffe's success is that she is marketed as an
eco toy
"made from natural rubber". Sophie is produced by Vulli, based in Rumilly in the Haute-Savoie Region of France (in The French Alps), made from rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea Tree. Sophie the Giraffe therefore proves a wiser choice for parents that wish to avoid the not-so-fantastic plastic toys made in large volume throughout Asia.
Sophie the Giraffe
There are now variations of the popular teether; the original Sophie the Giraffe which has not waivered from its original 1961 design, a Sophie the Giraffe soft teething ring, and a new animal shape
the Fawn "Fanfan the Fawn" . You can even buy a Sophie the Giraffe branded musical box, a hooded towel
and a line of body lotions.
Right now, our 4 month old baby shows signs of teething, and we have the original design Sophie the Giraffe for him to chew. I find he is still a little young to utilise her to her full potential (she squeaks and her legs are easy to hold), but as his grip develops over the coming months, maybe we will see the benefit of the magnificently popular teether that it seems no baby can do without.

As well as online sites such as Amazon and eBay, you can buy Sophie the Giraffe from most popular toy retail stores, we purchased ours from Toys R Us.
