Keeping Toddlers Engaged
It is common to find that most toddlers find it difficult to sit still or keep focussed on one activity. The reason behind it is their fickle mind and the bundle of energy that they carry. The task of keeping our toddlers engaged and not cranky can be a challenge.
Here are a few ideas to help keep them engaged-
Daily activities. Make housework fun for toddlers. Helping you in household activities becomes a game for them and you can keep them occupied by doing your work.
Some of them could be-
• Get them help you in arranging utensils or helping you in drying the clothes. Let them pick the clothes one by one and hand it over to you. While the kids stay engaged, you get your jobs done.

Building blocks and picture books. Kids get fascinated by the colourful blocks. We can teach colors and to count while they have fun with the blocks. It’s an excellent way to help them recognize colors. Get some interesting books from the library and show them the pictures and tell them stories. Read it aloud and would be a good idea to ask them, repeat it with you.

Fun in front of mirror. Kids love to see themselves in the mirror. It becomes a game for them. You can make them stand in front of a mirror and probably ask them to dance or do some actions. They love seeing themselves.

Fun while eating. Cut some pieces of the food that you are eating and tell your kid to pick it one by one and put it in their plate. Every time they eat the piece, clap for them. This would not only encourage them to eat more, but also would give you enough time to have your meals peacefully.

Dance with Kids. Kids love music too and will have their favourite music. Just play their favourite music and let them enjoy it. It would be better if we also can dance with them. It will be blend of physical activity and fun.

Soft toys and balloons. Get some colourful toys or balloons and let them play with it. They love throwing the balloons in the air and playing with them. We can also get some soft balls at home which are less likely to break the things. These games shall keep them engaged with minimum chances of injuring themselves.

These kind of activities can sometimes allow us to finish off pending work like paying our bills, catching up with our family and friends or maybe even completing our office work. I really found them very helpful in balancing my time and remaining stress free.
