Cloth nappies have evolved considerably in the last 10 years and the days of your choice being limited to a terry cloth nappy and a safety pin are long gone. Now, parents have a huge choice of cloth nappies to consider, with the cutest of designs too. Whilst traditional cloth nappies still exist, it's the modern cloth nappy sewn into the shape of a disposable nappy for ease of use, that's been a big hit with parents.

If you're thinking about trying cloth nappies, here are some of the top benefits to consider:

Cost
It's widely accepted that disposable nappies will cost approximately $1000 a year per child. When you consider that many kids are in nappies for a full 2.5 years, this could amount to a spend of about $2500 or more. Modern cloth nappies on the other hand, cost in the region of $500-$1000 for the same period. So with a potential saving of up to $2000 per child to consider, this is a huge benefit for families to factor in. Furthermore, cloth nappies (unlike disposable nappies) can be used by multiple siblings, with some parents even selling them on after they've finished using them.

The Environment
Approximately 6000 disposable nappies (oh my gosh) are used per child which all end up in landfill sites. When you consider the hundreds of years it will take for nappies to breakdown, we'll run out landfill space long before we run out nappies. Cloth nappies are resuable, and can be used by multiple siblings. A baby will likely only use around 15-20 cloth nappies until they are toilet trained so the saving to the environment is considerable.

Chemical Free
Another reason many parents choose cloth nappies is to avoid the harsh chemicals that may be found in disposable nappies. Babies who use cloth nappies often don't suffer from nappy rash as much as those using disposable nappies. Due to the lack of chemicals or plastics in cloth nappies, babies with sensitive skin or eczema may benefit from wearing them too compared to disposable nappies.

The Cute Factor
Due to the expanding range of cloth nappies now available, you can purchase a range of colours, prints and patterns in cloth nappy form. There are some gorgeous nappies out there, and so if your child is wearing just their nappy or a nappy and a top, they'll still look cute as a button with their cloth nappy proudly on display.
