There are 3 days a year that kids are truly excited. The first is the day the jolly man in the red suit comes. The next is when a rabbit delivers them mountains of chocolate. And the third, and most important is their birthday.

You see, unlike Christmas and Easter, your childís birthday is all about them. They are the only ones getting presents, and they are the only ones who matter. They get what they want, and they get to all of the attention.

So when your kids have a bad birthday it is something that they remember for life. Whether its a sucky present, bad party, or that they didnít get to do what they were after, any small aspect has the power to scar your kids for life.

So to prevent this, and to ensure that every birthday is a great one for your little ones, weíve put together the ultimate birthday checklist:

1. Devise a theme

Whether its ninja turtles in year 4, or dinosaurs in year 5 - every year your kids passions will change. While this might make decorating their room difficult, it certainly makes planning their birthday easy.

By focusing on what their passion is at that point in life when planning the theme, you're guaranteed a successful birthday.

2. Get them the best present

Presents - For kids this is the most important part of the day, so make sure you donít screw it up! But donít worry, you donít need to spend a fortune.

If money is tight you can be thrift and make them a one of a kind toy for their birthday. Or if you have some spare cash, then brands such as Kidkraft & Automoblox both have fantastic toys on offer.

3. Plan the day out

6.00am- Wake & Presents
7.00am - Nutella pancakes & waffles
8.00am - Answer all the annoying calls from grandparents
9:00amÖ.

You get the picture. By having a rough plan of the day itís easy for you to fit in multiple activities as well as give them what really matters.

4. Prepare the food

Its your kids birthday, so ask them ahead of time what theyíd like to eat for each meal. Do they want nutella pancakes for breaky? They can have it for 1 day a year. Or perhaps they want your lasagna for dinner - no problem.

But by preparing the food the day before, you can ensure that your child gets what they want on their birthday.

5. Throw the party

Is your childís birthday on the weekend? Great - Throw their party on the same day! Nothing is more exciting for kids than celebrating with their friends, so when you can combine the two, they're going to have a day to remember.

6. Capture the memories

With technology advancing as fast as it has in the last few years, youíll be hard pressed to find a phone that doesnít have a camera. So get snapping and take plenty of pictures to remember the day. Although they mightnít appreciate it at the time, when they are older nothing is better than looking back at your birthday parties.

7. Keep the day going

Who says that the day needs to finish at bedtime?

Perhaps save 1 present for the next morning to make them excited, or have their friends around for a sleep-over. By keeping the magic of their birthday going for more than 1 day will give you a very happy child for the next 12 months.
