Young children love to play make believe games with small figures. My youngest is very much into animal sounds and was lucky enough to be given a set of jungle animals made by Schleich as a Christmas present.

Schleich are well practised in the art of making toys as they've been doing this since the 1940s. All their toys are moulded and then finished with painting by hand.

The quality is obvious when you look at them upclose and they are so realistic. I was really impressed by the glossy eyes of this gorgeous Zebra, it's almost as if he'll come alive when you're asleep.

Another favourite is this elephant. The detail is amazing and he seems wise and old with all his wrinkles and long tusks.

An elephant never forgets

The animals are a lovely size to fit comfortably in a toddlers hand and are great at stimulating the imagination.

The quality of these animals also mean that they are toys for life, not just for Christmas.
