Parenting Acronym Buster - Deciphering the New Language

Do you want to know what BF, DD1 or BLW mean?

When I was pregnant with my first child, I started to spend a bit of time on the internet looking at parenting forums and blogs, and quickly realised that I didn't know what half of the posts were actually saying. There was a new world of parenting acronyms that as a non parent, I had never come across in my life and boy, was I confused.

Using the new parenting acronyms, here is an US of my DS2 whilst I was PG

If you're a new parent, parent to be, or like me, still getting to grips with this jargon, here's a quick list of definitions to help you understand this new lingo.

Family Members
DD Dear daugher
DF Dear fiance
DH Dear husband
DS Dear son
DSD Dear stepdaugher
DSS Dear stepson
DXP Dear ex partner
DP Dear partner
MIL Mother in law (sometimes also referred to as the witch)
FIL Father in law
OH Other half
LO Little one

Feeding Terms
BF Breast fed
EBF Exclusively breast fed
EBM Expressed breast milk
BLW Baby led weaning
FF Formula fed/forumula feeding

Pregnancy Terms
EDD Estimated date of delivery
EP Eptopic pregnancy
MC Miscarriage
PG Pregnant
US Ultrasound
MS Morning sickness
VBAC Vaginal birth after c section
HPT Home pregnancy kit
HG Hyperemesis Gravidarum (extreme morning sickness)

Parenting Terms
AP Attachment parenting
FTM First time mum
BC Birth control
CC Controlled crying
MCN Modern cloth nappy
SAHM Stay at home mum
WAHM Working at home mum
SAHD Stay at home dad
PT Part time
WM Working Mum
