When you travel away from home, it's a good idea to keep a copy of your medical records with you. For most women long distance travel is safest in the second trimester, but be sure to discuss any travel plans with your doctor. During travel there is an increased chance of going into labour. Whatever your means of transport, remember to take a walk every two to three hours and do simple leg exercises while you are down to avoid forming a blood clot in your legs. Car travel allows you to make frequent stops, but be sure that you wear a seat belt, and push your seat back as far away from the airbag as possible. Drink plenty of water.
