Who would have thought a mat could bring so much joy to children and their parents? Those cheap connecting alphabet mats are great. They are soft and colourful and can be wiped down.
However, they do fall apart and the letters come out when you try to move it though, don't they? That is really a pain! But there is another choice, a more permanent one.
Last year my Inlaws bought my son a groovy mat for him to play on. It is called a Bubba Mat and can be found at baby stores.
The Bubba Mat is a great size, it's padded, soft and wipeable. It comes in really bright coloured scenes and the best part is its double sided! Each side has a different scene.
My son has got a farm scene on one side and a road scene on the other. Being a huge car fanatic my son has never let me flip it over but that's fine.
It's safe and comfy for any age so it's a godsend for parents. The bright and colourful patterns will brighten up any room and any playtime. Perfect for houses that have tiles, floorboards and not much carpet.
Your child can crawl on it, roll on it, sit on it, have tummy time on it, put it outdoors and play anything on it. It is really flexible, you can put heavy furniture on top of it and the marks will be off in just a few days.
It is super easy to clean and completely waterproof! Any mess will simply wipe off with a damp cloth or baby wipe. No harsh chemicals, no vacuum cleaner, mop or duster needed. Heaven.
My baby niece uses it whenever she visits. It's so soft on little feet that they can be barefoot. There are also different designs to choose from.
Ok now for the not so good news, the price. It retails at about $200! I know it's steep isn't it? Here is an idea of how you can manage to get it. For Christmas or your child's birthday make it their main present. Ask a few family members to chip in. Believe me it will be used in your home for years on end so although pricey it really is worth it.
If you really look after it (which is so easy to do) you could sell it once your children have grown up.
Another downside is that you can't really make it my smaller so it might be hard to use in an apartment or other small place. You can however roll it up to take with you to Grandparents homes although, it is very bulky.
So for convenience, safety and softness I have to give it a big thumbs up! It is pretty pricey but I think it is so great and unique that it is worth it. Your baby, toddler or preschooler will love it.
