The new school year has started and you probably, like most parents, havenít bought everything your kids will need. No worries, because the start of a new school year is the second biggest retail season. This is the time when all the shops, supermarkets, retailers, bookshops, online and brick and mortar alike, have discounts for back-to-school deals. You probably want to be strategic with your back-to-school shopping, and we give you a list of things you will need to fill your childís backpack with.

Backpack

It is usually a good idea to invest into a good quality backpack, even if it is pricy. It will benefit your childís spinal health to have something comfortable. Most shops will have 30-60% off discounts around this time of the year. If you have an old durable backpack, which is still in good condition, you might consider decorating it. By sewing some designs or print textiles onto it, you could change the appearance and make it look nicer.

Lunch kits

There are many products on the market available today, and you can easily buy a good lunch box for under 9$. Get a soft-sided lunch-box with less plastic, since their full backpacks will already be heavy to carry around. For example, you can get a hi-top soft-sided Arctic Zone Munchsak in various designs for as little as 5.99$. If you have younger children, make sure the bag is easy to open and close, pack and unpack.

Textbooks and reading materials

All bookstores will have their best sales of the year now through Labor Day weekend. You can save a lot of money renting books for a year, buying used books, or downloading digital versions. There are several websites that sell used books, like AbeBook, Bookpal, Amazon, to name just a few. Most of them also offer coupons for buying certain quantities. You can also ask around your neighborhood to see if older kids would sell their used books from the previous school year.

Stationary

To save money, it is best to start early and buy items little by little. Follow the Sunday ads, look up deals and offers online, and compare prices on all items to find out who has the best prices. If you find a very good deal, buy more than you need, your kid will use these items eventually.
The best places to find discounts are office supply stores, so you can get things from them directly. The prices will be lower if you buy larger quantities, so you may consider teaming up with people who also have school kids to buy school supplies together.
It is worth mentioning that drugstores and supermarkets always offer back-to-school deals around this time. You can get packs of notebook paper and 10-count packages of pens for as little as 50 cents.

Clothes

You will need to get some new school clothes, sneakers, and accessories. Again, look for deals and back-to-school offers; plenty of shops will offer discounts and end-of-summer clearance sales. You can find affordable apparel for any school kid. For example, at swap.com it has free shipping for your first order.
