Planning an animal-themed party is the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, and there is no end to the exciting ways that you can incorporate your child’s favorite animals into their special day. Yet, it is important to carefully plan every detail to make sure that your birthday boy or girl and their guests all enjoy the occasion. These seven simple steps will take you through each stage of the planning process so that you can set the stage for a day full of animals and fun!

1. Create a Guest List

Deciding who will be invited is the first step toward planning an animal party. As a general rule, you should use the age your child is turning to decide how many kids to invite. However, you may invite more if they are older, or you have additional help. You may also ask your child if there is anyone they absolutely prefer to invite so that no one is left off of the guest list.

2. Choose the Right Venue

Today, there are tons of venues from which you can choose to host your animal-themed party. For example, you could have the party at your local zoo, or you could choose to host at home if you plan on having an animal show. As you choose your venue, make sure to consider the size of your party along with your preferred date to choose the one that works best for your occasion.

3. Send Out Invitations

Your invitations are the perfect way to generate excitement about the event, so make sure to choose bright, colorful cards with animal prints. This is also an ideal time to narrow down your theme. Does your child like ocean animals, or do they prefer a jungle theme? Try to incorporate these details into your invitations, and send them out at least two weeks in advance.

4. Ask About Allergies

When your guests begin to RSVP, ask the parents about any potential allergies. This is especially important if you will be having live animals at your party. Additionally, find out if anyone has food allergies so that you can use that information to tailor your menu.

5. Plan Party Games and Entertainment

Animals can easily be worked into many classic party games. For example, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey can be changed to any type of animal. You can also do a ring toss around a toy giraffe’s neck, or you can add animal pictures to the back of the seats during musical chairs.

6. Arrange for the Cake

A birthday cake should always fit the theme, and you can find many beautiful options that include animals. If you will be ordering your cake, make arrangements one week in advance, and let the decorator know your theme. If you are making your own, then adding animal figures as toppers can make it easy to decorate the perfect cake.

7. Choose Favors and Prizes

The best party decorations also double as favors and prizes. For your animal party, consider using animal figurines such as those by Schleich. These figurines are second to none due to their realistic details, and you can use them on your cake, as tabletop centerpieces or as prizes for your games.

With some careful planning, you can host an animal party that will have all of your guests enjoying the event. By carefully working through each stage of planning, you can weave animals into your theme so that your favorite little animal-lover is thrilled with their special day.
