There is a huge difference between moving a home successfully and just moving a home. A successful move means minimal stress and no surprise costs. Less than successful moves can be one of the most harrowing experiences in your life.

There is some difference if you are moving to Australia from another country. You need to consider government regulations and the time frame for a visa. You best bet is to take the advice of people who have made the move like these people. This makes that part of the move easier.

Moving across town or across the country involves a defined set of steps that make your move easy and successful. You do this if you move into the country too.

1) Check the property laws

Every local government in Australia has slightly different housing and property laws. You save yourself some grief, inconvenience, and cost if you consult the local government before you move. The first resource you can use is the Australian government housing and property web site.

You can use the information to be certain that all the tax requirements and sales requirements that are imposed by local government are met before you move. The alternative can be spending a month in a motel while you sort out the problems.

2) Toss it

Go through everything that you own and get rid of the things that you do not need. The time to get rid of the stuff you have been putting off dealing with is before you move. It saves money because you do not pay to move useless things. Give the stuff to charity or have a sale to pay for part of the move.

3) Plot the move

You know what you need to move. You know what the place you are going to move to looks like. Plan where each thing that you move will go. A sketch of your new home will help. This step helps you and your mover. The move goes quicker because everyone knows what needs to be packed first and last.

4) Animals and plants

Plants and animals are the most difficult items to move with the possible exception of children. You will need a mover who has experience with the type of plants that you own. This means equipment to carry the plant and to keep the plants watered. Animals need similar experience.

5) Utilities

The idea is to have all of your utilities turn on in your new home on the day of the move and turn off in your old home when you have moved out completely. Exact timing is almost impossible but working with your mover and defining a time frame will help you save money running utilities in a home where no one lives.

6) Let folks know where you are going

Your family and friends need to know your new address. Your old bank, old employer if you are moving to a new job, and any company that you have ongoing business with need to know your new address.

7) Pick affordable removalists

Reasonable rates for services are not an extraordinary expectation on your part. You will probably check with family, friends, and former colleagues who have moved. The idea is to define the cost of the services that you require, the time frame, and guarantees before you pay anything. You always need to check insurance coverage provided for your home and your furnishings against damage.ow.
