Becoming a Mother is one of the most beautiful times of your life. You get to connect with your child in a way that no one else can understand.

However a lot of mum's fall into the trap of letting themselves go, and as a result their self esteem, social life and overall happiness slowly fades away.

To help you be the most stylish Mum possible, below are 5 useful tips:

1. Don’t dress to old

As a mum there is only 2 things that you can’t undo once done - Dressing too old or too young. The easiest way to think dressing too old is to think of everything your mother wore when you were growing up, and to avoid it like the plague.

You see, once your kids put you in the ‘dag’ basket its extremely difficult to climb back out.

2. Don’t dress too young

The only thing worse than dressing old prematurely is to dress to young. While it might seem like a great idea to share clothes with your 16 year old, don’t.

By dressing too young you are shouting to the world that you aren’t ready to get old, and that you’ll do anything to avoid it. Instead follow tip #3.

3. Find your unique, fashion inspired look

Ok so that’s the end of the ‘do nots’ and now time for some ‘what to do’s’. The key to being a stylish mum is to find your own unique style.

Perhaps you are a very sporty women or maybe you love bright colours. No matter what type of women you are, it's important that your clothes match your identity. The only caveat is that they are fashion inspired.

What do I mean by this?

We’ll being sporty is great, but if you’re wearing your leg warmers from the 80’s then you’re still going to be out of style. Instead head down to Lorna Jane and grab a stylish new outfit from there instead.

Some examples of popular styles are:

Sporty
Elegant
Timeless

4. Avoid the perms

This isn’t specifically an attack on Perms, but more a general warning about letting your hair style get ‘old’. Just like wearing clothes that are 40 years too old for you, having a hairstyle that is popular on Seniors night won’t help your looks.

So how do you get an age appropriate style? Simply look to the red carpet!

Celebrities all hire professional stylists to ensure that their styles are perfectly matched to their ages, ensuring that they always look great.

5. Stay in shape

As you age it's easy to slowly let yourself go. However the easiest way to stay stylish as a mum is to stay in shape. There are plenty of ways to maximize your workout for weight loss , such as pushing heavier weights and interval training.

Whatever your approach to staying in shape, if you commit then you’ll get great results.
