Toys certainly have changed over the years. Walk down the aisles of any toy store and it's easy to see that toys are expensive, not as well made, and mostly technologically based. It seems that these days everything is either made of plastic or is a technological gadget or gismo. There are a few toy companies who still make the good old fashioned wooden toys. Remember the wooden blocks of yesteryear? Well, they are still available today. Here are five reasons why your child needs to have wooden toys and learn the value of quality craftsmanship.
1. They Don't Use Technology
Wooden toys are simple and beautiful. They are good, clean fun. There are no ratings needed like the video games, and a child can play for hours on something other than a tablet or other game system. Some are hand painted to give them a unique appearance too.
2. Their Nostalgic
Most parents had some sort of
wooden toys when they were a child. Allowing a child to share in the memories of your childhood will ensure that they understand that things were not always as they are today. We must ensure that they have a well-rounded variety of toys to play with. Plastic isn't the greatest material for toys.
3. They Can Pass Them To Their Children
If you are one of those parents who passed down your toys to your children; you know how special this act is. Wooden toys last a whole lot longer than plastic ones. They don't break as easily, and they seem to maintain their beautiful colors. If kept in good repair, they can pass these treasures down to their children.
4. They Must Use Their Imagination
Gone are the days when children use their imagination to play. By the time a child is 2-3 they are already on the video games and computers. Using wooden blocks, or a wooden toy car allows them to express their bright imagination and play with something tangible. It's so much better than being a slave to a computer screen.
5. They Are Special
Most people can remember being given a wooden train set, or even a dolly made of wood. Back in the days of old, people didn't have the massive processing that there is today. Some companies still value the wooden toys and are still making them. Holding a wooden doll or a block is a whole different feeling than that of plastic. You can tell that they are made well and their unique appearance adds to their charm. Long after the electronics stop working and the little plastic building pieces are all lost; the wooden toys will still be around.
When considering buying your child a toy, remember how special wooden toys are. There is nothing better than the shiny, smooth feeling of a piece of wood that has been whittled into a masterpiece. Teach them about the toys of yesteryear and how special each and everyone was. Sometimes life isn't about the most expensive toy, it's about that one that was given from the heart.
