Camping is one of the most enjoyable summer activities for families. In this modern age where most of us spend far too much time indoors, it is delightful to get back to nature. Going on a camping trip with your family will bond you together. It is also one of the most economical ways to spend a holiday. Instead of paying loads for airfare and hotels, you can drive and camp out in your tents or stay in an RV. If you want to experience the delights of camping with your family, here are five family camping ideas for the summer.

1. Camp at the Beach

One of the best family camping tips is to head to the beach. A great thing about living in Australia is that we are blessed with thousands of miles of gorgeous coastline. If you want to have a blast this summer, take your family camping at the beach. It can sometimes be tough to get family members to agree on a destination, but almost everyone loves spending time at the beach. There are so many fun activities to enjoy when you are at the beach like hiking, collecting shells, swimming, surfing, sunbathing and making bonfires.

2. Hit the Road in an RV

Not everyone is cut out for roughing it in a tent when they go camping. If your family wants to enjoy the comforts of home while you are on the road, you should rent or buy an RV to go camping with kids. When you have an RV with you, you can always take a hot shower and make home-cooked meals. You never have to worry about finding a place to stay. There are loads of RV friendly towns to explore around the country.

3. Go Hiking

Camping and hiking go together like Vegemite and toast. One of the most enjoyable family camping ideas is hiking. These days, most people do not get nearly enough exercise. That is especially true of kids who seem to spend all their time indoors playing video games, watching television and surfing the Internet. When you go on a family camping adventure, make sure you make time at each place you camp to hike around the area. Almost every camping location will have hiking trails that you can use to see the beauty of nature. During your hikes, you will have a chance to see plants and wildlife that will amaze you. Just remember to bring plenty of water with you on your hikes so you can stay hydrated. Also check out this article for a age-by-age guide for hiking with your kids.

4. Play Sports

Going camping with children is the ideal time to bond with your kids over sports. You can kick the soccer ball around with your kids. Take them for a swim and have fun splashing around. Bring your bicycles along and go for rides. When you are on a camping vacation, you have all the leisure time you need to bond with your kids while playing. That is something that is all too rare the rest of the year when you are trying to keep up with your busy schedules.

5. Have a Singalong Around the Campfire

One of the best family camping ideas is to sit around the campfire. Of course, you need to make sure to bring along marshmallows, kebabs and hot dogs to roast over the fire. You can gaze up in wonder at the starlit sky as you enjoy the fire. The best thing to do is to sing songs around the campfire. If someone in your family plays the guitar, make sure they bring it along. The fun you will experience as your family bonds during these campfire singalong sessions is pure magic.
